Forest Green Basketball
February 27, 2010 | 7 Comments
I have had the great chance to watch our teams represent Forest Green this weekend and am really proud of how hard they have worked. I am currently writing this post in between the girls and boys games, and am pretty excited to get back into the gym and watch the students play. It is amazing to see how much they have progressed in this first year alone.
The thing that has been most talked about and recognized from our school is their sportsmanship and positive attitudes during the games. I have been quite impressed on how well our coaches and students have represented the school, and it is great to see the parents out supporting their kids playing these games. Personally, I remember how much it meant to me that my mom would come out and watch my basketball games, even though sometimes I would not communicate that to her in the best way.
At this level of basketball, we want to promote sportsmanship, an eagerness to play and learn the game, while also giving the students the opportunity to develop relationships with their coaches and fellow teammates in a respectful manner. From what I have seen, I am proud to say that mission has been accomplished.
Great job this weekend to all the players, coaches, and Forest Green fans!

Both volleyball and basketball were great introductions to school sports! It was a great idea to get the kids out on the court before they hit junior high. I know my daughter enjoyed the experience, including the highs and lows of winning/losing games. They’ve learned that they have to work as a team and get to know each others strengths and weaknesses! Now it won’t be such a shot in the dark for Grade Seven!
I agree…the more we can expose kids to different things in school, including sports, the better prepared they will be for the future. I am looking forward to more team play next year as I think the coaches set up a great foundation for the future of Forest Green sports!
